Commuter Alternatives: Emergency Ride Home Program

Emergency Ride You are eligible to use this program if you fall under the following criteria defined below:

  • Live in the City of Elk Grove and use alternative transportation (bike, walk, use bus, rideshare) to get to work.
  • Work in the City of Elk Grove and use alternative transportation to get to work.
  • Purchased an e-tran monthly pass and ride e-tran to work.

If you meet the following criteria, click here to sign up for the City of Elk Grove Emergency Ride Home Program.

Guidelines

  • You can use the City of Elk Grove Emergency Ride Home up to six times in a twelve month period under the following circumstances:
  • An immediate family member suffers and emergency and you can't wait for your normal ride home.
  • A serious problem arises at your child's school or daycare center.
  • Your home or property is damaged by burglary, fire, etc.
  • You are sick and can't wait for your normal ride home.
  • Your ridesharing partner has an emergency and you have no way to get home.
  • Unscheduled, approved overtime.

You may NOT use the Emergency Ride Home for the following reasons:

  • Personal errands
  • Medical or dental appointments
  • Building evacuations
  • Business travel
  • A natural disaster
  • Missed bus, carpool or vanpool ride home
  • Other reasons deemed invalid by program administrator

Vehicle Provisions

  • Taxi: Commuters traveling 20 miles will use Yellow Cab Company. Program Voucher will includes a 10% gratuity. Call (916) 444-2222 with the account number on your voucher to schedule a ride. If you are within the City of Elk Grove, you can call Elk Grove Co-Op Cab at (916) 670-7078 or Yellow Cab of Elk Grove at (916) 684-3222.  
  • Rental Vehicle: Commuters traveling more than 20 miles from work will use Enterprise Rent-A-Car. User is responsible for returning the car, with the same fuel level as when rented, to the rental agency within 24 hours. Call 1-800-RENT-A-CAR to set up your rental car. Use the account number that is on the voucher downloaded.

Note: The City of Elk Grove is not responsible for any services not approved or listed in the guidelines. Use of non-approved services will be the responsibility of the user as authorized by rider signature. It is understood that incorrect use of this service may result in user reimbursement of transportation expenses incurred and restriction from using this service again.
